Pakistan in the opening T20 match of the series won the toss and elected to field first. Sri Lanka unleashed the start of the series. Pakistan’s pace attacker Sohail Tanvir provided Pakistan with first breakthrough via removing Dilshan from the crease. Mathews was the highest runs scorer for Sri Lanka who scored 50 off 34 balls. Mathews played for his fifty with the help of 5 boundaries and 1 six. Thirimanne from the lower middle order contributed meaningful 23 runs in the death overs to bring Sri Lanka to a respected total of 145 runs in limited 20 overs. Sri Lanka batting first in the opening T20 match of the series scored 145 runs at the loss of their 5 wickets. Sohail Tanveer with two wickets was the most successful bowlers for Pakistan but he was expensive too for Pakistan. Pakistan started their innings and lost their first wicket in the start of the innings. Ahmed Shehzad was the man walked away in the 2nd over of the innings, but Sharjeel Khan from the other end was excellent with the bat who played an innings of 34 runs with the help of 3 boundaries. Sharjeel Khan was the 2nd highest scorer for Pakistan in the 1st T20 against Sri Lanka who scored 34 off 31 balls. Middle order batting line up collapsed again, but just before complete failure the match winner made his prominent appearance. Shahid Afridi turned the game on his own head and with playing match wining 6 made Pakistan win the match by 3 wickets. Shahid Afridi in today completed his 1000 runs in T20 international career and become the 3rd Pakistani and 12th batsman in the world.
